We have landed at Belfast International and are on the bus for the last leg of the tour. The boys and girls have all behaved brilliantly despite being shattered. The teachers have been amazing too! We should be home on time at 9pm, all being well.
We are sitting on the plane in Gatwick waiting to head home. All on time so far! See you soon.
After visiting some more memorial sites this morning, we all stopped for an ice cream and some souvenir shopping in Ypres this afternoon. We found a couple of great Belgian chocolate shops who'd had prior warning that we were coming and had some special offers ready for our group. It was much cooler today than yesterday but we were glad it stayed dry (mostly!). After dinner we went back out to the Menin Gate to witness the Last Post and to lay a wreath from both schools. It was a very moving service and the children had lots of questions and discussions about it on the bus back to the hotel. They enjoyed a short chat in the rooms before lights out and all are now quiet. Last day tomorrow...
Tales from France
Today started off well with everyone up early. A breakfast buffet of cereal, fruit, croissants and hot chocolate got us fuelled up for the day ahead. Task1 was to make our own packed lunch. Some of the sandwiches were quite interesting but were appreciated by the time it came to eating them. We had a long journey into France and lots of interesting stops made for an enjoyable day. The children have been keeping a log of their travels. They were delighted when they found the names of the soldiers they had been researching on Theipval memorial. It was also a real treat to meet the mayor of Mesnil-Martinsart and to have a go at speaking French!
Not a peep out of the rooms until wake up call at 7am! Getting ready for breakfast now before making our packed lunch and heading out on tour once more. What a well behaved bunch we have.
The channel tunnel was an interesting experience! We popped out the other side to beautiful weather. Arrived in Belgium and explored Tyne Cot cemetery. Lots of weary children finally arrived at the hotel at 5.30pm. We had a lovely meal with vegetable soup to start, roast gammon dinner and chocolate mousse. The rooms have now been allocated and we are all in our jammies and are winding down for bed already. Hopefully lights out will be by 9pm! Fingers crossed!!!
Arrived safely in Gatwick after a pleasant flight. We are all now on the coach and the sweets are out already!
We have arrived safe and sound at the airport. The children have all had their snack and the teachers are on coffee number 2! Having a social get together with our pals from St. Mary's while we wait to board the plane.
A visitor to school today asked if I was moving in when they saw all the suitcases by my office door!! Not long to go now... just checking the technology works. I'll do my best to keep you updated here. See you all on Monday morning- bright and breezy as Mrs Bell would say!!
